Step 5 - Boot the install floppy in the machine you which to convert into a PizzaBox File Server

The boot / install floppy disk contains a micro-Linux distribution which has all the installation code for the PizzaBox File Server. The first part of the installation is done from a Screen and Keyboard which must be directly attached to the PizzaBox File Server. To start the installation, insert the floppy disk and boot the system up.

The first thing the install floppy will do is check if there is any data already on the hard drive. If there is, it will ask you if it is OK to blank the hard disk. Once the hard disk is blank the system will re-boot. Leave the install floppy disk in at this stage. When the floppy disk boots (again) and sees a blank hard disk it will start the installation procedure.

The start of the installation is automated to the point at which you must enter an IP address for your PizzaBox File Server. You will be prompted for the IP Address and Netmask you wish to use for your PizzaBox File Server. Please refer to the PizzaBox File Server Manual, supplied in the ZIP distribution, for more information on choosing an IP address. Once the PizzaBox File Server is installed, the IP address can easily be changed by using the web administration pages or from the console (Screen & Keyboard).

Once you have entered the IP address and Netmask the install system will start up a web server and give you the URL you need to type into your browser to connect to it. From now onwards the installation is completed from your Desktop PC.

Note, it is very important that you now eject the floppy disk.

For the rest of the installation you no longer require the screen and keyboard on the PizzaBox File Server.

Once the Web server is running you can proceed to Step 6.
