WARNING:
The PizzaBox File Server is designed to run as a stand alone server in
its own hardware. DO NOT try and run it as dual boot with your Windows
system. It will RE-FORMAT any hard disks on which it can not
find
a Linux partition. This is done so adding hard drives is made easy. All
you have to do it to add a hard drive is install it and boot the system
up. It will automatically format and bring on-line any hard drives it
detects
has been added. |
There are
two methods of installing the PizzaBox File Server.
Method (1)
(Installs v4.xx - currently "beta") requires that you have a CD burner (in a desktop PC),
and a CD drive in
the computer you
wish to use as your evaluation PizzaBox File Server.
Step
1

Download
the 42.5Mb ZIP file
containing the
ISO
CD Image

Step
2
|
Unzip
the file and burn the ISO image onto a new CD. If you are not sure
how to burn an ISO image onto a CD, then try reading this,
or search Google.

Step
3
|
Boot
the CD into the computer you which to convert into a PizzaBox File
Server, and it will automatically install the Operating System.

Method (2)
(Installs v3.xx) requires that you have a TCP/IP network set up and a
floppy drive in the computer you
wish to use as your evaluation PizzaBox File Server. Please read these
instruction carefully, the installation of the PizzaBox File Server is
slightly
unusual. The install floppy will boot and start a web server, once the
web server is running you finish the installation from a browser on
your
Desktop PC.

the PizzaBox File Server ZIP package and Unzip it |

Install a
Network card into your
Desktop PC
and set up TCP/IP on it |

Use rawrite3.com
from Windows 9X, ntrawrite
from Windows NT/2K/XP, or dd from Linux, to create the install
floppy |
| Step 4 |
Build a
PC to run as your PizzaBox File Server |
| Step 5 |
Boot the
install floppy in the machine you which to convert into a PizzaBox File
Server |
| Step 6 |
Once the
Install floppy has started
its Web Server go back to your Desktop PC and request the URL
you are given
by the install system |
| Step 7 |
Activating
your PizzaBox File Server |
You can also,
separately, download
a copy of the PizzaBox File Server Manual, if you wish. But, if you
intend to download the ZIP Distribution, or the CD ISO Image, this is
not necessary as the manual
is included in the ZIP.
